Lisa Velker Obituary

Lisa Marie Velker, 63, a beacon of kindness and friendliness, whose thoughtful nature touched the lives of all who knew her, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024, in her home with her family by her bedside. Born on March 19, 1961, in Youngstown, OH, to the late Andrew and Rosemary (Kreuzer) Nadzam, Lisa's vibrant spirit and warm heart were evident from a young age.

Lisa's journey through life was one marked by love, dedication, and service. In July of 2000, she married her beloved husband, Mark Velker, with whom she built a beautiful life filled with joy and laughter. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Jaclyn of Denver, Sydney of Santa Monica, and Seth of Columbus, who will carry on her legacy of compassion and generosity.

She was a cherished sister to Pam Golec and her husband, Joe of Gettysburg, PA, Nadine Martin and her husband, Steven of Ellsworth, Nancy Connors and her husband, Chris of Canfield, and Drew Nadzam and his wife, Carla of Johnsburg, AK. Lisa's loving nature extended to her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Penny Johnson and her husband, Andy of Hinsdale, IL, Trisha Custer and her husband, Bill of Poland, and John Velker and his wife, Stephanie of Whidbey Island, as well as to her many adored nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws, Jack and Dorothy Velker.

A proud graduate of Boardman High School, class of 1979, Lisa went on to receive her bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University in 1983. Lisa was so very proud to have all three of her children graduate from OSU. Her passion for education and faith led her to a fulfilling career as the Director of Christian Education for Canfield Presbyterian Church and Western Reserve United Methodist Church. In these roles, she nurtured the spiritual growth of countless kids and young adults with unwavering dedication and grace. Over the years, she also embarked on many mission trips, including Haiti, Croatia, and Israel.

Lisa's interests and involvements were as diverse as they were heartfelt. A ruthless Ohio State fan, she shared and even pushed her enthusiasm and team spirit upon everyone around her. She was a vital member of the LCR Girls, The Infamous Book Club, and a Women's Bible Study group, where her insights and camaraderie were deeply valued. Lisa also took pleasure in participating in the Millcreek Women's Golf League, albiet for the social element more than the sport itself.

Those who knew Lisa will remember her not only for her achievements and hobbies but also for the profound impact she had on their lives. Her kindness was a guiding light, her friendliness an open door, her thoughtfulness a warm embrace, and her faith an undeniable constant. Lisa's presence was a gift – a warm, glowing light – immediately felt as she entered any room and one that will continue to inspire and influence the many hearts she touched.

We celebrate a life that exemplified the best of humanity. Her story does not end here, for it lives on in the countless lives she enriched and the love she so freely gave. Lisa's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the enduring power of faith and friendship. She will be profoundly missed and eternally remembered.
