Lois Davis Obituary

SALEM – Lois Mae (Zimmerman) Davis, passed away peacefully on Jan. 1, 2025, at 97 years old with her daughter by her side at the Lexington Place, where she had resided for the last three years, after selling her home that she loved in Greenford for 75 years.

She was born to the late Willis and Rowena (Whinery) Zimmerman in their farmhouse on November 26, 1927. Growing up on the farm with their pride Jerseys always kept her a country girl.

She attended Coffee School through eighth grade walking or riding her pony to school everyday. Then she attended Salem High School the next four years and graduated in 1945.

There at Salem High School she met the love of her life, Lester “Lucky” Davis. After he served in World War II and them writing many letters to each other, he returned, and they were married on September 21, 1946. Shortly after they bought their little farm in Greenford and she turned her sweet city husband into a farmer too. They both loved always having a few animals and gardens. It was at their farm that they raised their three children, Deena, David and Danny.

Lois worked for many years at the Greenford Apple Storage. Years later attended Kent State University-Salem and got her real estate license. She worked for 12 years in the industry with George Snyder and Fred Vogelhuber. After retiring from real estate, she volunteered for two years at Salem Community Hospital.

She loved golfing, bowling, and playing cards. And believe it or not she better win! And mostly did! But, her biggest passion was traveling and camping. She was very proud that she and Lucky had been to every state including Hawaii and Alaska.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lucky Davis in 2010. Also, sadly by her two wonderful, loving sons, David Davis (1996) and Danny Davis (2017); a sister, Wanda Mercer; and brother, James Zimmerman.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Deena (Harvey) Radcliff of Salem; grandchildren, Tara (Mike) Spoon of Colorado, Bill (Carla) Dustman of Beloit, Brian (Robin) Dustman of Lisbon, Bob (Lori) Dustman, Sharon Schneider and Kelly Davis, all of Salem, Matt (Susan) Davis of Huron; Jennifer (Jeremy) Mayle of Canton, and Sarah (Josh) Wire of Salem; step-grandchildren, Becky (Randy) Blackstone of Columbus, Harvey Dale (Sal) Radcliff of Washingtonville, and Gina (Dana) Sturgeon of Lisbon; 22 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
