Margaret Sabatino Obituary

SALEM - Margaret Marie (Meissner) Sabatino passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 with family by her side. She was born on March 23, 1928 in Salem, Ohio to the late John and Pauline (Baum) Meissner.

Margaret married Cardini Angelo Sabatino on May 13, 1950 at Saint Paul Church in Salem, Ohio.

She attended elementary school in the one-room schoolhouse, formerly located at the intersection of Slater Rd. and Hartley Road. She was a graduate of Goshen High School, Class of 1946.

Margaret worked at the Merit Shoe Store in Salem prior to her marriage. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader for Saint Paul Troop 6. She and Buster enjoyed bowling in the Friday Night Mixed League. They were League Champions multiple times with partners: John Volio and his wife and later Jim Johnson and his wife. She golfed in a Buck Run Morning League. She enjoyed doing crafts, the Word Jumbles and tending to her plants and flowers in her sunroom. Margaret was a United Commercial Travelers wife and traveled with Buzz across the state of Ohio attending and representing Salem Council 590 at their Annual Conventions. She was lifetime member of Saint Paul Catholic Church of Salem. She served on the Church Funeral Buffet Committee. All five of her children attended Saint Paul School and she was a participant in their school activities.

The Quaker Community Day Care Center opened its doors on April 6, 1970 in second floor rooms at the First Methodist Church. One of the early volunteers was Margaret Sabatino, who probably had the longest tenure. Margaret started in 1970 as a volunteer and was still teaching in the 1990’s.  Through her 25 plus years, she touched the lives of not only a first generation but also some of their children.

Margaret is survived by her five children, Mark (Cheryl), Joseph (Kathy), Michael (Lori), David (Kathleen) Sabatino and Cynthia Ehrenberg: 12 grandchildren, Mindi Maniscalco, Matthew Sabatino, Marcie Sabatino Zamarelli, Paul Sabatino, Angela Bailey, Michael and Daniel Sabatino.  Matthew, Stephen and Thomas Sabatino, Eric and Emily Ehrenberg; 12 great grandchildren, Bailey, Gina, Anthony, Leila, Angelina, Paige, Abigail, Dominic, Lance, Sophie, Brooklyn; Katherine; great-great grandchild, Luke; sisters, Barbara Kline, Alice Dangelo and Katherine Greeneisen and brothers John and Joseph (Linda) Meissner.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Cardini “Buzz” Sabatino; sister, Helen Meissner Moore; sister-in-law, Kate Meissner; brother-in-laws, Dr. Leo Kline, Pete Dangelo and Larry Greeneisen.
