SALEM - Marvin James "Corky" Lutsch, 82, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Salem Regional Medical Center.

Born on December 1, 1942, in Salem, Marvin was the son of Martin Lutsch Jr. and Kathryn (Goodman) Lutsch. Marvin, known to friends and family as "Corky," was a graduate of Salem High School's Class of 1960. His thirst for knowledge led him to Youngstown State University, but his studies were put on hold when he answered the call of duty, enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1965 during the Vietnam War. He served his country with dedication and honor in the field of communications, stationed across the Philippines, South Korea, Vietnam, and spending time in Japan, until his honorable discharge in 1968 at the rank of Sergeant.

Following his military service, Marvin's passion for learning reignited. In 1969, he enrolled at Kent State University where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in education. His commitment to shaping young minds was evident as he embarked on a teaching career in 1973, specializing in math and science at Southern Local, Alliance, and Crestview Schools. He continued to educate and inspire until early retirement due to the loss of his eyesight.

Marvin's heart belonged to Moira Lee Boyd, his childhood sweetheart, whom he married on August 14, 1966. Together, they cultivated a marriage of 59 years, filled with profound love, mutual respect, and unwavering support. Their union was blessed with two children, who brought immeasurable joy and pride to Marvin's life.

A man who enjoyed life's simple pleasures, Marvin found joy in the company of his beloved wife as they spent many hours listening to audio books together and embracing the joys of travel with family on memorable bus trips. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed cheering for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the professional Cleveland sports teams. His interests spanned the realms of science and astronomy, and he even explored the world of music through playing the guitar.

Active within the Salem community, Marvin was a member of the First United Methodist Church and participated in its Men's Group. His fraternal bonds included memberships with the Perry Lodge No. 185 F&AM, the Independent Hose Club, and the Salem VFW Post 892.

Marvin leaves to carry on his memory, his beloved wife, Moira; children, Leah (Roger) Babb, and Steven Lutsch, all of Salem; niece, Kelly Bush; and nephew, Kevin Bush.

In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his brother, Robert C. Bush.

Family and friends will be received from 10-10:45 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church, 244 S. Broadway Ave., Salem, where a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m.
