Mary Ellen Tyson

SALEM - Mary Ellen Tyson, 63, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Salem Regional Medical Center, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Mary was born on February 7, 1962 in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of Mack C. and Betty Jane (Gump) Courtwright.

On April 9, 1980, she married the love of her life, Dwane Tyson, and became a devoted wife and homemaker, celebrating nearly 45 years of marriage. Together, they made their home in Salem, where they raised their three children and were later blessed with two grandsons. Family was the cornerstone of Mary's world, and her family will always remember her as their "Angel."

Mary found joy in life's simple pleasures like going fishing with her husband, playing video games with her grandson Jacob, and cooking for her family. Her homemade noodles were always a favorite at family gatherings.

Mary's firecracker personality and caring spirit will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dwane; her daughter, Wanda (Bill) Lieder; grandsons, Paul Stiffler and Jacob Lieder; sisters, Lorna (Bo), Merrily (Steven), and Carol Sue; mother-in-law, Edith Tyson; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her children, Adam Tyson, and Tia Tyson Stiffler; and sisters, Joyce, Letha, and Sara.

Family and friends will be received from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. State St., where a funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery, Salem.
