Michael Tarka Obituary

New Springfield -- Michael Dale Tarka passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the age of 86, surrounded by his family.

Michael was born in 1937 in Campbell, Ohio the son of Mike and Margaret (Schwartz) Tarka. His family moved to New Springfield in 1944 where he attended Springfield schools and graduated in 1954 at the age of 17. He served in the Army Reserves and worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube in the Electrical Maintenance Department until the mills closed. He then commuted to the Chrysler Plant in Twinsburg until his retirement in 1999.

From a young age Michael enjoyed helping on the family farm and he and his family returned there in 1989 after his father's death. Michael didn't know the words vacation, or relax, and always had a project in progress. While also working at Chrysler, he raised a small herd of beef cattle on the farm and was proud that there was a waiting list for his beef.  His customers- friends from Chrysler came from Cleveland and Akron.

There are many great times, and stories to be remembered by his wife of 59 years, Virginia and their son Steven of New Springfield, and daughters, Michelle Tarka of Canfield, and Karen (Scott) Jones of Columbiana, his grandchildren Lauren Vargo and Michael Vargo, and stepgrandchildren, Scotty Jones, and Mallory Thompson. He was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald.

As per his wishes there will be not calling hours. A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made in Michael's name to Hospice of the Valley, 979 Tibbets Wick Road, Girard Ohio 44420.
