COLUMBIANA - Michael J. Potemra, 75, passed away Monday, December 15, 2025, in Boardman, OH, following a long physical illness.
He was born in McKeesport, PA, on July 5, 1950, to the late Edward D. and Mary L. (Jancic) Potemra.
Michael graduated from Baldwin High School in 1969. Shortly after graduating he attended Gateway Technical Institute in Pittsburgh where he focused on electronics and sound board engineering.
He worked at Honeywell Home Monitoring for many years. He then worked with Guardian Home Security until retiring in 2018.
His passions included music, volunteering, and sound equipment. He was able to combine these passions when he volunteered with The Strand Theater Initiative, where their focus was to rebuild and revitalize the historical theater in Zelienople, PA. Once they completed their initiative of restoring the theater, Michael worked as a sound board technician, supporting hundreds of stage productions over many years as sound and lighting board operator.
Michael was presented with the “WQED Pittsburgh Dominion Foundation Volunteer in the Arts” Award in 2014. Only a select few receive this honor each year.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Michael leaves behind his two sons, Mark and Michael Potemra, a brother, David Potemra, a stepdaughter, Jenny Fath and stepgrandson Aiden.
Due to Michael’s wishes, there will be no service or viewing.
