Michael P. Prendergast, age 76, peacefully passed away after a two-year struggle with Bulbar ALS on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at his residence in Sebring, Ohio.
Mike was born on January 11, 1949, in Ravenna, Ohio, to the late Patrick and Louise (Coates) Prendergast.
He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1967. Following his graduation from high school, Mike went on to enroll at the University of Notre Dame. While there, he completely immersed himself in the university and everything they had to offer. Mike created many lasting friendships and memories from the time he spent there. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1971.
Mike was an avid football fan throughout his life, especially with his alma mater, Notre Dame. He was a proficient golfer and ping pong player. He was always trying to carve out time to do the things that brought him joy. He traveled throughout the country playing on various golf courses.
Mike was a very kind and loving man. He met Gloria Dunn in 1989, and they were married on May 27, 1990. Together they travelled throughout the United States, Canada, and Ireland.
He worked as an accountant for the VA in Brecksville, Ohio, for 20 years until his retirement in 2011. Shortly after he retired, Mike and Gloria moved to Copeland Oaks in Sebring, Ohio. He was very involved in the Sebring community. He was a cameraman for Vespers, president of the golf league, and he was heavily involved with the Villa Association at Copeland Oaks.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Rosemary Merchant and Patricia Hanusz. He leaves behind his wife, Gloria Prendergast, a sister Marie Prendergast, and a brother Tom Prendergast. Mike will also be deeply missed by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services for Mike will be held at a later date.
