HANOVERTON - Numan W. Lambert, 84, a cherished husband, father, papaw, and brother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Salem Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Born on July 15, 1940, in Ethel, W.Va., Numan was the beloved son of Sterling and Lillian (Matney) Lambert. His life was a testament to hard work, dedication to family, and a passion for all things automotive.
From a young age, Numan followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, working in the coal mines of West Virginia. His industrious spirit led him to Ohio in 1987, where he continued his career in underground mining. Numan's work ethic was unmatched, and he eventually became the chief electrician in mining, a position he held with great responsibility and pride.
His love for cars was more than just a hobby; it was a way of life. He started drag racing with a 1969 Camaro and later had a custom-built Camaro made in 1992, designed for speed and performance. His passion for automobiles didn't stop there. After moving to Alabama for six years and witnessing the phasing out of the coal mine industry, he continued to indulge in his love for cars by building a T-bucket from the ground up, showcasing his remarkable mechanical skills. Numan's enthusiasm for cars was a joy he shared with his family, even building a mini dragster for his grandson when he was little.
Numan's legacy is carried on by his loving wife of 32 years, June (Altenhof) Lambert whom he married on May 9, 1992. He was a father to his daughter, Krystle Ann (Brian) Meadows, and a grandfather to Emily Meadows and Josh Lambert. He also leaves behind his brother, David Lambert, and numerous other family members.
He was preceded in death by his son, Sterling "Rusty" Lambert, whose memory remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate his life from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral service honoring Numan's legacy will take place the following morning at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the funeral home with an additional hour of visitation prior to the service.
