SALEM - Raymond John Zepernick, Jr., 78, died Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Aultman Alliance Community Hospital. He was born on May 31, 1946, in Salem, son of the late Raymond J. Sr. and Fay L. (Libert) Zepernick.
Ray was a graduate of West Branch High School. Following his graduation, Ray honorably served as a medic in the Army, where he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his fellow soldiers. His desire to serve extended beyond his military career, as he continued to make a significant impact as a firefighter for the city of Salem. For 25 years, Ray's bravery and selflessness were the cornerstones of his service, protecting and aiding countless individuals in their times of need. Upon retiring from the fire department, he continued to contribute to the community by working as a courier for Salem Hospital.
Ray enjoyed fishing, old cars and antiques, and was a member of Salem First Friends Church. Above all, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family.
He will be missed by his wife, Linda Zepernick (Votaw), whom he married February 5, 1966; children, Ray (Gretchen Soltis) Zepernick III of Seven Hills, and Sherry (Scott) Bettis; grandchildren, Ashley Zepernick, Jordan Zepernick, Cassidy Zepernick, and Skyler Bettis; siblings, Robert (Linda) Zepernick, Richard (Gina) Zepernick, Robin Ten Eyck, Becky Gardner, and Rhonda (Dan) Mitchell.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Corey Zepernick; brothers-in-law, Mel Ten Eyck, Bob Hillman and Skip Gardner, and his dog and best buddy, Gavin.
Friends and family will be received from 5:00-7:00 p. m., Friday, December 20, 2024, at Stark Memorial and 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2024, at First Friends Church with a service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Pete Fowler officiating. A burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Salem, OH.
