Richard Stape Obituary

BERLIN CENTER - Richard Charles Stape, Jr., passed away at the age of 71 on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Salem Regional Medical Center.

Born on August 25, 1953, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the beloved son of Richard Charles Stape, Sr., and the late Shirley Ann (Crisman) Stape.

Rich grew up with a love for the roar of engines and the thrill of speed. He was an avid racecar driver, and his passion extended to antique cars, where he spent countless hours restoring and celebrating the beauty of these classic machines. His work as a top-of-the-line machinist was a testament to his precision and dedication to craftsmanship. He was also an avid Steelers fan.

Education was a cornerstone of Rich's life. After graduating from Hempfield High School in 1972, he pursued higher education and eventually shared his wealth of knowledge with others. Rich was not only a graduate of Kent State University but also an esteemed teacher. He imparted his expertise in precision machining to students at MCCTC, Youngstown State University, and Kent State University.

Rich's legacy is carried on by his loving family. He is survived by his father, Richard Sr., and his devoted wife, Lora Virginia "Lori" (Moats) Stape, whom he married on September 17, 1977. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including children, Steven Richard Stape, Stacy Susan Stape, Robin (Arthur Lucci) Stape, Becky A. (Brad) Smith, and Rachel L. Dailey-Elsass. His life was further enriched by the joy of his grandchildren Valerie, Caitlyn, Lacey, Avery, Nicholas, Zach, and one more blessing on the way.

He also leaves behind his siblings, Karen (Dave) Nave, Michael Stape, Shirley (Doug) Nave, Linda (Jeff) Hickman, and Gary (Stephanie) Stape; along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Rich in death were his mother, Shirley Stape; his grandson, Finn Arthur Smith, and his sister-in-law, Laurie Stape. His cherished dog, Muttley, also predeceased him, leaving behind memories of companionship and joy.
