SALEM - Richard A. Siers, 82, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Salem Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late John E. and Jessie (Roman) Siers. He graduated from Max S. Hayes High School in 1961. He attended some college before enlisting into the Navy in 1963. He was stationed on the US Aircraft carrier Independence. He was honorably discharged in May of 1966. He earned a Navy Unit Commendation as well as a Vietnam Service Medal for his time served.
He married Lucy Shaffer in 1968.
Rich had gained a lot of experience while in the Navy. This knowledge he gained had a very positive impact on his life and endeavors. He was a classic car enthusiast, having bought and worked on many cars over the years. Rich’s favorites were his 1966 Ford Thunderbird, 1978 Corvette, 1973 Volkswagen Beetle, and his 1947 Ford Pickup, to name a few. He was also well versed in computer technology, restoring radios, and woodworking. His friends and family knew him to be a man that could fix just about anything.
Rich leaves behind his wife, Lucy, his sons, Mike (Ashley Chapman) Siers and Andrew (Angela) Siers, and a brother, Brian (Claudia) Siers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John P. Siers.
There will be no services for Rich at this time.
Rich’s family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Chaplain Bob Rowley and to the entire ICU Staff at Salem Regional Medical Center for providing their family with the utmost care and diligence. They would also like to sincerely thank anyone else who was near Richard during his stay in the hospital and treated him and his family with nothing but kindness.
