Rilla Jane Gill, aged 79, of Guilford Lake, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Cleveland Clinic, surrounded by her family.
Born on August 12, 1944, in Alliance, Ohio, she was the cherished daughter of the late William Nevin and Jane Catherine (Shaw) Gill.
A proud graduate of Minerva High School's class of 1962, Rilla's vibrant spirit shone brightly as she graced the school as its homecoming queen, and her enthusiasm was infectious as a spirited cheerleader. Her warm and outgoing nature was encapsulated by the fact that she never met a stranger, welcoming all with open arms and a radiant smile. Rilla's passion for life was evident in her love for her pontoon boat, which she enjoyed taking out on Guilford Lake, where she was also the treasurer of the Guilford Civic Association.
Rilla's community involvement extended to her active membership in the Columbiana County Kennel Club, reflecting her love for animals, especially her beloved Yorkie, Bella. A lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the American Legion, she embodied the spirit of service and faith throughout her life.
Professionally, Rilla dedicated her skills as an accountant to Lyle Printing and Publishing and shared her wisdom as a substitute teacher at United Local, where she was fondly and lovingly known as "G-Dog." Her commitment to education and the nurturing of young minds was a testament to her generous spirit and her desire to make a positive impact on the future.
Above all, Rilla treasured her family. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Trinette (Robert) Jones of Guilford Lake, and her adored grandchildren, Joshua (Danielle) Bolin of Brooklyn, N.Y., Nevin, Abigail, Grace, and Liam Jones, all of Guilford Lake; her sister, Heidi (Lee) Edwards of St. Petersburg, Fla.; along with her nieces and nephews. Rilla was preceded in death by her daughter, Tamara Jane Simms-Bolin; and her brother, William Larry Gill.
Rilla's love for her grandchildren was unparalleled, and she relished every moment spent being involved in their lives. Living across the street from her daughter, their bond was a testament to the depth of their relationship. During the arrival of spring and summer, Rilla's cherished presence on her Gator became a poignant symbol of family bonding. Together, they forged countless memories, all the while witnessing her grandson Joshua's blossoming dreams in New York whom she was very proud of.
