Robert Coy Obituary

SALEM - Robert P. "Bob" Coy, 85, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at Salem Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 24, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bob was the son of the late Robert A. and Lois (Walton) Coy. His warm smile, sparkling blue eyes, and profound kindness touched the lives of all who knew him.

Bob proudly served his country in the Army and Army Reserve, where he was stationed in Germany and worked on nuclear weapons. Following his military service, he returned to his roots and graduated from Salem High School in 1958. Bob then embarked on a successful career as a machinist at General Motors, dedicating 30 years before retiring in 2002. His craftsmanship extended beyond his profession, as he was also a talented creator of beautiful stained glass and skilled in woodworking.

On August 4, 1996, Bob married the love of his life, Pat J. (Reisner) Coy, and together they shared a life full of love and mutual respect. Bob's commitment to his community was evident through his active involvement in both the Bunker Hill Methodist Church and the Greenford Christian Church. His humble nature was the cornerstone of his character; he quietly assisted many people throughout the years, never seeking recognition for his generous deeds. His volunteer work included helping with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina on three separate occasions, demonstrating his selfless spirit and dedication to helping others in need.

Bob's legacy is carried on by his beloved family, including his wife, Pat; son, Scott (Megan) Coy; sister, Deidra (Lowell) Manary; step-son, Jeff (Jill) Reisner; step-daughter, Jodie (Larry) Bock; daughters-in-law, Julie Coy and Elisa Coy; grandchildren, Brent (Haley) Reisner, Renee (Nathaniel) Guy, Andrew Bock, Rebecca (Ben) Shoemaker, Sabin Coy, Galen Coy, Anna Coy, and Daniella Coy; and great-grandchildren, Henry and Judah Guy, Lane Reisner, and Danny Lethers.

Preceding him in death were his two sons, Stephen Coy and Danny Coy, and his sister, Carol McConnell.

Friends and family are invited to gather in celebration of Bob's life at 4:00 p.m., December 8, 2024, at Bunker Hill Methodist Church. This gathering will be a time to share memories, laughter, and tears, honoring a man whose life was a testament to kindness, service, and love.
