Robert "Bo" Whinnery Obituary

SALEM - Robert Lee "Bo" Whinnery, 68, of Salem, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2024, at Salem Regional Medical Center. Born on April 11, 1955, in Salem, he was the son of Earl and the late Barbara (Todd) Whinnery.

A proud 1973 graduate of Salem High School, Bo went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy from 1976 to 1982. His time as a Submariner was a source of great pride and shaped much of his disciplined yet adventurous spirit. Following his military service, Bo built a rewarding career at Compco in Salem, where he was respected for his work ethic and camaraderie.

Bo's passion for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. He was an avid golfer who found peace and friendship on the greens. His love for sports also found an outlet in his commitment to Salem School Sports, where he mentored young athletes as a softball coach. His dedication to fostering sportsmanship and character in the youth of Salem earned him the prestigious Joe Kelly Spirit of Salem Award in 2023.

Family was the cornerstone of Bo's life. He is survived by his father, Earl Whinnery, and his sons, Josh (Lindsay) Whinnery of Burnet, TX and Bryan (Autumn) Whinnery of Beloit, OH. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Alexius, Austin, Addyson, Carson, Wyatt, and Lane; and his great-grandchild, Isaac, who brought him immeasurable joy. Bo will also be fondly remembered by his sister, Carla (Terry) Kyser; and brother, Michael Whinnery, both of Salem. His family will hold onto the memories of his unwavering love and support.

Bo's journey preceded in death by his loving mother, Barbara Whinnery; his brother, Jeffrey Whinnery, and his sisters, Christine Whinnery and Carleen Grimes. His memory will serve as a guiding light for his family, reminding them of his wisdom, humor, and the unconditional love he provided.

In keeping with Bo's wishes, there will be no services. He believed in living a life full of purpose and connection, and it is this spirit that his family encourages all who knew him to honor.

Remember Bo by living fully, loving deeply, and laughing often, just as he did.
