Roger H. Babb, Sr.

HANOVERTON - Roger H. Babb, Sr., 84, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at Salem Regional Medical Center.

Born on October 18, 1940, in East Liverpool, Roger was the son of Alvin T. and Hazel V. (Gibbs) Babb. Roger was a proud 1958 graduate of East Liverpool High School. His pursuit of education led him to The Ohio State University, where he furthered his knowledge and prepared for a successful future.

Roger's entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the respected business owner of MacMillan Office Supply in Salem. His work ethic and dedication to his customers were hallmarks of his career. Outside of the office, Roger was an avid golfer, a passion that he pursued with the same focus and enjoyment as his professional endeavors.

A man of faith, Roger was a devoted member of the Salem Episcopal Church. His love for the outdoors was evident in his fondness for fishing. He cherished the tranquility of Guilford Lake, where he owned a pontoon boat and enjoyed many peaceful days on the water.

Roger and his beloved wife, Florence Anne (March) Babb, whom he married on November 26, 1963, were known for their hospitality. They loved entertaining friends and family at their cottage on the lake, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His commitment to his community was further demonstrated through his involvement with the East Liverpool Jaycees, where he made significant contributions through service and leadership.

An animal lover at heart, Roger had a special place in his life for dogs and cats. His compassionate nature extended to all living creatures, and he was often seen with his loyal dog, Maisie, by his side. His love for music was profound, encompassing opera, classical music, and jazz. Roger also played the French horn, a pursuit he took great pride in.

Roger is survived by his loving wife, Florence; his daughter, Elizabeth Anne (Wayne Gruver) Babb; his son, Roger (Leah) Babb Jr.; and his brother, Jack (Sandy) Babb.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Gayle Thomas Babb.

A celebration of Roger's life will be held at a later date, where loved ones will gather to honor his memory.
