Sherry L. Harris Obituary

Sherry L. Harris, 71, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Salem Regional Medical Center.

Sherry was born on September 29, 1954, in Salem, Ohio, to the late James Harley and Ethel (Rambo) Melton. She graduated from Crestview High School in 1972.

She married Charles L. Harris on October 13, 1984. They shared 41 loving years together until his passing in December of 2024. Over the span of their marriage, they created an inseparable friendship with one another, a beautiful family, and many warm memories of their moments together. They would often go to the movies together, eat at Texas Roadhouse, and babysit their grandchildren.

Sherry loved to cook, especially preparing her recipe for homemade mac and cheese, pumpkin pies, and her famous noodles made from scratch. She loved spending precious moments with her grandchildren, never missing a game, going swimming and countless sleepovers when giving mom and dad a night out. Those who knew Sherry will always remember her obsession with Elvis, always having a cup of sweet tea everywhere she went, the slot machine games she played on her phone, and collecting seashells from the shores of Myrtle Beach. Sherry also always looked forward to going to the nail salon and having breakfast or lunch with her best friend, Lynn.

Throughout her life, Sherry was always known for her caring heart, drive to help others and her ability to make those around her smile uncontrollably just by being herself. Her family will always remember her lightheartedness and kind spirit. Sherry’s loving presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She leaves behind her son, Joshua (Casey) Harris; her daughter, Tina (Darnell) Burgess; six grandchildren, Harper Harris, Amara Harris, Montana (Trenton) Tarr, Jacquelyn (Steven) Koen, Margaret (Tim) Maggard, and Dakotah Burgess; six great-grandchildren, Waylon, Mason, Makenna, Max, Addison and Peyton. Sherry will also be missed by two sisters, Cynthia Davis and Jandra Cotts; a brother, James Harley Jr.; her best friend, Lynn Lee; a nephew with whom she shared a very special relationship, Jacob Cotts; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her father James, her grandson, Wyatt Burgess, and her sister, Vickie Cummings.

There will be no services for Sherry at this time.
