SALEM - Tammy Kay Metzgar, 65, passed away on September 15, 2025, in the comfort of her home.
Born November 25, 1959, in Salem, Ohio, Tammy was the daughter of the late Dale and Marlynn Ochkie Peters.
A graduate of United Local High School, Class of 1978, Tammy married her high school sweetheart, Richard E. Metzgar, on June 24, 1979. Rich's career as an airplane mechanic led them to the sunny shores of Titusville, Florida, where Tammy worked as a dispatcher for the Brevard County Sherrif's Office before starting a family. With the arrival of her two adored daughters, Tammy embraced the role of a stay-at-home mom with enthusiasm and grace. Her home became a sanctuary of warmth and celebration, festively decorated for every season and holiday. Here, friends and family gathered to share in the bounty of her table, enjoying the home-cooked meals that were a testament to her love and care.
Tammy found joy tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, often featuring her homegrown produce in the many dishes she lovingly prepared, often inspired by her favorite cooking shows. Her commitment to service shone brightly through her active involvement with the Shrine Club. As a member of the Ladies of the Nobles, Tammy twice held the honor of serving as the organization's president. She dedicated countless hours to volunteering, lending her culinary skills to fundraisers and events, and touching the lives of many with her generosity. In 2019, Tammy and Rich returned to their hometown of Salem and enjoyed being close to family again.
Tammy's bubbly personality, big heart, and willingness to help those in need will be lovingly remembered and missed by many.
Tammy leaves to carry on her memory, her husband Rich of 46 years; daughters, Shawna Metzgar and Shelby Metzgar, both of Salem; grandson, Liam Sheppard; sisters-in-law, Ann Peters, Beth Metzgar, and Robin (Danny Miller) Metzgar; and brother-in-law, Mike Metzgar; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Tammy was preceded in death by her brother, Dewayne Peters.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the AMVETS Post 45, 750 S. Broadway Ave., Salem, OH 44460.
