SALEM - Ted L. Barnes, age 88, went to be with the Lord on December 9, 2024. Ted was born on October 23, 1936, in Salem, the son of the late Joe A. Barnes and Harriet (Blackburn) Barnes.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley R. (Miller) Barnes, whom he married on May 24, 1958. Together, they had five daughters, Janet Elliott of Bellaire, MI, Nancy Barnes of Youngstown, Dianne Jackson of East Palestine, Susan Cooper of Hanoverton, and Carol Matijevich of Burgettstown, PA., along with 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Roger Barnes of Kendallville, IN and preceded in death by a sister, Betty Bentley and brother, Fred Barnes.
Ted attended Salem High School and graduated from the Nazarene Bible College. In his lifetime he pastored for over 50 years, with his last church being at Madison Trinity Church in West Point, where he touched the lives of many with his compassionate spirit and unwavering belief. After he retired, he attended the Church at the Center in Salem.
Professionally, Ted was highly respected in his role as a Tool and Die Leader at Quaker Manufacturing in Salem, where he worked for 15 years. His colleagues remember him as a man of integrity and skill, someone who led by example and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Ted served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion, where he served as Chaplain. He also served with the Salem Honor Guard.
Ted's memory will be held in the hearts of those who knew him as a guiding light and a source of constant support.
Friends and family will be received from 11 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2024, at The Church at the Center, 1785 S. Lincoln Avenue, Salem. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Tim Ginter officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
