Columbiana - Thomas J. Williams, 89, passed away under hospice care, Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Hampton Woods, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 5, 1936, in Youngstown, Ohio, Tom was the son of the late David M. and Anna Cathrine (Hone) Williams.
Raised in Youngstown, Tom was a graduate of South High School, Class of 1954. Tom furthered his education at Grove City College, where he played football until an injury redirected his path, and then continued his studies at Youngstown College. A loyal member of LIUNA Local 125 for over 60 years, Tom spent most of his career with City Asphalt & Paving. He retired in 1996, leaving behind a legacy of respect and admiration for his knowledge and expertise in the trade.
Tom's heart found its match in Mollie McCrone, and the two were united in marriage on July 12, 1963, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter in Poland, where they welcomed and raised three children. Their family grew to include cherished in-laws, five adored grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, each adding a new dimension of happiness to Tom's life. In 2014, Tom and Mollie embarked on a new chapter, making their home in Columbiana.
Friendly and approachable, Tom was a man who never met a stranger, and his easy-going disposition made every conversation a pleasure. Through the years, he enjoyed the camaraderie with friends and family as he visited his favorite local spots, Tangier and LaVilla, and also as a member of the F.O.E #213 and the American Legion in Columbiana. Tom's happy place was relaxing on his deck with a Miller Lite in hand, while listening to music that spanned all genres, and enjoying the company of visitors that often stopped by to say hello.
Tom especially loved family vacations to the Outer Banks, Fort Myers, and Lake Erie, cheering on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes, and getting lost in the pages of a good science fiction book. On Saturdays, Tom looked forward to taking the boys and "making the rounds." He truly enjoyed life's simple pleasures.
Tom leaves to carry on his memory, his wife Mollie; children, Gregory (Sandi) Williams, Kathrine (Kelly) Casto, and Mollie (Albert) Kakascik; his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Papa" and "Grandpa," McKenzie Casto, Samantha Roberts, Jessica Williams, Jordan (Beth) Williams, and Michael Williams; great-grandchildren, Caden Roberts, Charlie Roberts, Aubrey Williams, Maverick Williams, and Ambrose Williams; several special nieces and nephews; and Michael, Cathy, Rick, Trib, Nancy, Rick, Shevy, and Amy, who held a very special place in Tom's heart.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sisters, Gert Friend, and Marilyn Jacobson, and niece, Sue Jacobson.
In keeping with Tom's wishes, there will be no calling hours or service.
Tom's children leave him with one last "O-H Dad" until one day they greet him again and he can reply "I-O" with a smile.
The family would like to express their appreciation and thank the wonderful staff of Hampton Woods and Hospice of the Valley for the compassionate care given to Tom and his family.
