Violet Woodall Obituary

HANOVERTON - Violet Jean Woodall, 92, affectionately known as Vi, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, in Salem. Born on August 21, 1932, in Hanoverton, she was the cherished daughter of Emmett and Nettie Smith and grew up as one of 12 siblings, all of whom predeceased her.

Vi's journey began in the close-knit community of Hanoverton, where she attended local schools and graduated from Augusta High School in 1950. It was there that she met the love of her life, Richard Woodall Sr., and the two sweethearts married shortly after her graduation. Together, they built a loving home on family land, a home that remains a testament to their life together.

The Woodall family grew with the arrival of their son, Richard Woodall Jr., in 1951, and their daughter, Diane Duncan, in 1952.

Vi's professional life was marked by her long-standing tenure at TRW in Minerva, where she dedicated many years before retiring at the age of 60. Retirement did not slow her down; instead, it provided her with the opportunity to focus even more on her family, her garden, and her community.

An active member of the New Garden Methodist Church, Vi's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She lived her beliefs through her actions, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a comforting word. Her commitment to service was unwavering, and she touched countless lives through her kindness and generosity.

Vi's door was always open to friends, family, and those in need. Her love for gardening was only matched by her joy in hosting family reunions and spending precious moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren by the pool during the summer months.

She enjoyed playing cards and attending club meetings with her sisters. These simple pleasures were a source of great happiness and provided cherished memories for her family and friends.

Vi's legacy is carried on by her loving daughter, Diane Woodall; her grandchildren, Tonia Gray, Scott (Nicole) Duncan, Jessi (Tim) Lease; daughter-in-law, Francis Jane Woodall; as well as her 14 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Richard Woodall; her parents, Emmett and Nettie Smith, her son, Richard Woodall Jr.; and grandchildren Daniel Duncan, Jamie Berresford, and Jeannie Woodall.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Blossom Nursing Home for their compassionate care of Violet in her final years.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Eye Association.
