SALEM - Virginia Easterday Baun, 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Grace Woods Senior Living, where she has made her home for the past 2.5 years.
Born on June 10, 1927, in Youngstown, OH, Virginia was a daughter of the later Robert N. and Birdie Mae (Ludwick) Laughner.
A 1946 graduate of The Rayen School, Virginia was the secretary for Easterday Pharmacy, owned by her husband. She also previously worked at the Family Service Society in Youngstown.
Virginia was a member of First Christian Church in Salem and served on the church's bereavement luncheon committee for many years. Virginia enjoyed spending her free time tending to her beautiful gardens and yard. While in her 90s and still gardening, Virginia was honored with Salem's Yard of the Month Award.
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia (Michael) Fritzman of Salem, and Virginia (Neil Westbrooke) Easterday of Scotts Valley, CA; stepdaughter, Kathy Handwork of Merritt Island, FL; sister, Audrey (Howard) DuVall of Dayton; grandchildren, Hannah (Mike) Belsito of Lakewood, OH, Rachel (Ryan) Wirtz of Broadview Heights, OH, Gabriel (Melanie) Easterday Westbrooke of Portland, OR, Matt Handwork, and Kelly Handwork, both of Merritt Island, FL; and a host of great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husbands, James Easterday in 1973, whom she married in 1948, and Thomas Baun in 2001, whom she married in 1976; sisters, Eleanor Shaw, and Ruth Thompson; and brothers, Robert and James Laughner.
Family and friends will be received from 10-10:45 a.m., on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the First Christian Church, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at a later date at Mount Union Cemetery in Alliance.
