SALEM – William H. McCormick, 91, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2024, at Salem North Healthcare Center. He was born June 2, 1933, in Salem, son of the late John and Elizabeth (Blair) McCormick.
William was a lifetime area resident of Salem. He was a professor of Engineering Technology where he taught at Kent State University, Kent and Salem Campuses for 25 years. William was an Elder, Deacon, Clerk and taught the high school Sunday School class at Salem First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Salem Kiwanis Club and past Master of Salem Masonic Lodge. William served on the Salem School Board over 10 years and as president for 8 years. He was the owner of McCormick Engineering and Surveying part-time for 40 years. He held a professional engineer and surveying license. He retired in 1991.
He had a private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying his Cessna 172 plane. He like to study genealogy, golfing, farming, woodworking, American history, and Columbiana County history. While at Purdue University, he surveyed plans for the Northwestern section of the Ohio Turnpike. He collected antique time pieces. The highlight of his life was the encouragement and teachings from his parents, who taught him the important things in life: to study and work hard. He liked studying the stock market, loved life and the world he lived in.
Survivors include his son, Todd E. McCormick of Salem; sister, Ruth Ewing; brother, Ross (Blanche) McCormick and several nieces and nephews.
William is preceded in death by his wife, Lois (Althouse) McCormick, whom he married September 1, 1961.
No services will be held. A private burial will take place at Yellow Creek Cemetery in Wellsville.
