SALEM - William "Bill" Leo Altenhof, 82, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, in his hometown of Salem.
He was born on November 16, 1942, to the late William A. and Martha G. (Stuckey) Altenhof.
Bill was a proud 1960 graduate of United High School. He spent the majority of his life working the land as a farmer. In the latter part of his career, he found a new passion as a truck driver for Whiteleather Farms, where he worked for 13 years before retiring in January 2024. His work ethic and commitment to his professions were admired by all who knew him.
His life was a beautiful love story, having married his childhood sweetheart, Nancy, on March 17, 1961. An avid outdoorsman, Bill relished the time spent camping in his RV, participating in tractor pulls, and tending to his garden. His garage was a sanctuary where he imparted wisdom and shared countless hours working on projects with his beloved grandson, Dalton Hephner.
Bill's legacy is carried on by his devoted wife, Nancy Altenhof; his children, Douglas Altenhof, William "Chuck" Altenhof, and Sonia (Larry) Hephner; his treasured grandson, Dalton; granddaughter, Kylee Altenhof, and siblings, Donald, Margaret, John, Mary, and Tom.
